Fisher Island - A Deep Dive 

WSJ Mansion recently dug into the super luxury private island just offshore from South Beach, and it got me excited to share some of the Fisher Island community details with my readers. The island has a rich history peppered with industry tycoons of the early 1900s and ultimately began development into what we see today in the 1980s. Today, the 216-acre island seems worlds away from Miami Beach even though it only requires a 7 minute ferry ride to access. There are about 800 families from 40 different countries and life revolves around the Fisher Island Club which opened in 1987 on the original Vanderbilt Mansion site. Residents travel the island in golf carts and children attend the prestigious Fisher Island Day School and make use of the island’s own medical clinic / safety department.  

First and foremost, buyers on Fisher Island are advised to know what sort of view they want. Residences which face the Atlantic Ocean have great views during the day but none at night and city facing units don’t get the ocean vistas but enjoy the city skyline and Biscayne Bay view. Membership at the Island’s Club is also recommended for club facilities including the beach club with private beach. The island also offers The Fisher Island Aviary and Vanderbilt Theater which hosts concerts and lectures and movie nights. The article notes 3 different active listings available right now.
